The village of Alton came out in force to kick off this year’s festive celebrations with the much-loved carols at the Round House and Christmas procession. Initially gathering at St Johns, Pugin’s magnificent castle provided the perfect backdrop to the start of the proceedings.
Riding a beautiful donkey who had been named Starlight for the occasion, Mary led the parade down the High Street where, following tradition, Joseph called at the two public houses on the way in search of shelter for the night. Duly turned away from both, they continued until refuge was found at the Round House, where the Christmas scene was completed with the placing of baby Jesus in the crib.
The celebrations continued with an offering of free mulled wine, delicious homemade soup and roasted chestnuts, all accompanied by a chorus of traditional Christmas carols. The local children were also encouraged to get creative and adorn the village’s Christmas tree with homemade made decorations created from recycled materials.
ACE would like to thank everyone that supported, contributed, and helped make these events possible.
