Held in the Bridge House Hotel’s picturesque riverside gardens, there was plenty of fun to be had in the glorious sunshine, surrounded by a backdrop of vibrant autumnal colours.
Attendees not only thoroughly enjoyed browsing the array of craft stalls but also tucking into the delicious pork and apple burgers on offer from the bustling BBQ. St Peter’s Church Bellringers also kept everyone refreshed with abundant tea, coffee and cakes.
As always, the apple crusher and press were kept busy all day long as attendees’ harvests were processed and bottled up for them to enjoy at home. Visitors also got a taste and a chance to experience some of the freshest apple juice they are ever likely to have.

Creativity was also in plentiful supply, with an array of mouth watering bakes entered into the apple themed bake off, including a neatly latticed pie and cake with perfectly piped frosting.

The children also wowed with their creative bakes, giving the judges a very hard time indeed. We are very proud to say the star baker of the day was ACE’s very own Johnnie for his delicious apple cake...we promise it was not a fix, as his bake was declared outstanding by all and not just us - Well done Johnnie!
This year the Apple Wanging Trophies finally came home, with Ed Shenton, now an Alton resident, holding onto the men’s title and his partner and previous ladies winner in 2022, Prudence Bailey, regaining the women’s title.
The competition didn’t stop there as participants eagerly lined up for the fiercely contested Apple Wanging contest. Rob Plant reprised his role as compère for the third year running and kept the crowds entertained throughout.

This pair will be hard to beat, so competitors will have to work out extra hard if they wish to take the titles off either of these two champions.
One of the most popular things at the event was the debut of our Apple Wangers Academy. Designed and created by our very Kevin, these set of mini wanging posts kept the little ones entertained and will no doubt give them a head start in training for the main championships in a few years’ time.
The very talented musical duo of Alison and Bill, aka the Bramleys, once again provided excellent musical entertainment which was throughly enjoyed by all.
